9 Lives for Women LLC of Wilton plans to draw more than 300 people to its upcoming Make Work Fit Life event with the intent of empowering women with a day-long series of networking and informative discussions.
The event will feature more than a dozen regional business leaders focusing on how women can balance motherhood and career as well as the important role women play in providing financial security for themselves and their families.
Topics will include how women can sell an inflexible boss on a flexible schedule, where to find a flexible job after time home with family and how to determine if you have the profile to be an entrepreneur.
According to the 9 Lives Motherhood and Career Ambition Survey of more than 500 highly educated women, 42 percent of respondents reported leaving the workforce to focus on their children while another 34 percent stated they left the workforce due to inflexibility among employers and the labor market.
According to Kathryn Sollmann, 9 Lives founder and CEO of the Make Work Fit Life events, women stay out of the workforce an average of 12 years and “each year out of the workforce is a lost opportunity to earn, save and invest.”
This jeopardizes their long-term financial security, particularly as majority of surveyed women report facing unforeseen financial hardships at some point in their later life, she said.
The event will include advice from a variety of companies including AXA Advisors, Cigna, Ernst & Young, Fidelity Investments, Raymond James financial advisers and Wells Fargo advisers. Westfair Communications, owner of the Fairfield County Business Journal, is the media sponsor for this event.
Starting with registration and breakfast at 7:45 a.m., the May 12 event at the Stamford Marriott will run until 5 p.m. with a break for lunch.

Unfortunately I saw this too late but would welcome someone to follow up with me to organize this in the Greater Bridgeport area. This sounds like an imperative and much- needed seminar for women of all generations! Have a great conference!
