ASML Holding NV was ranked the third-best large supplier of chip-making equipment worldwide, in a survey by VLSI Research Inc., and the top company in the industry in technical leadership.
Based in the Netherlands and with its U.S. headquarters in Wilton, ASML makes lithographic systems to etch circuitry onto semiconductors and other electronic devices. With more than 600 workers locally, the company is the largest high-tech employer in Fairfield County.
Gloucester, Mass.-based Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc. was rated the top vendor on the list, followed by San Jose, Calif.-based Novellus Systems Inc.
