WESTPORT – The Town of Westport is moving ahead with replacing piers at the Ned Dimes Marina.
It has released a request for proposals to replace two piers at the marina. Any interested parties have until 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 to file a response to the RFP. All applications need to be sent to Westport Town Hall Finance Office, Room 313, 110 Myrtle Ave. For copies of the RFP documents, go to the town’s website.
In February 2024, the town’s Parks and Recreation Department stated in a memo that it planned to spend $170,000 for the pier replacement, $100,000 for a fuel dock, and $300,000 for electrical work at the aging marina, according to the Westport Journal.
RFP responses will be opened shortly after the bid deadline via a ZOOM meeting. Interested parties may apply for the ZOOM meeting access by emailing Purchasing Officer Berit Watson at bwatson@westportct.gov.
The pier is named after the late longtime Westport Board of Finance Chair Ned Dimes, who died in 2005. During his 55 years in Westport, Dimes was active in town government, community activities, and his church. He served on Westport’s Board of Finance for 18 years, 14 of which he served as chair and president of the Westport Pension Board. He served on Westport’s Representative Town Meeting, Recreation Commission, Public Site and Building Committee, an alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and a trustee of the YMCA.
