Coronet Machinery Corp., a precision manufacturing company in Yonkers, is relocating by the end of November to a 15,000-square-foot space at Francis J. Clarke Industrial Park in Bethel, the company president said.
“We do a lot of government defense contract work and it”™s easier to operate up there,” said Martin Summer, president of Coronet. “The taxes are about a third of what they are here (Yonkers) and real estate is cheaper.”
The company has operated out of a 7,800-square-foot Yonkers site since 1986, Summer said, and prior to that, had a location in Mount Vernon.
Coronet faced several obstacles at its current headquarters, Summer said.
“When we asked for help with parking, I can”™t tell you how many years it took for somebody to come down and review our needs,” he said.
“We were from time-to-time looking to relocate and purchase a building in lower Westchester, but the real estate was super-expensive,” he said.
The state of the economy had Coronet “looking at things a little closer,” Summer said, and like most businesses, cutting costs was imminent.
He predicted utility costs will be more cost-effective for the company in Connecticut. Calls for comment to Yonkers city officials were unreturned.
