The University of Connecticut Stamford will host a free Connecticut Department of Labor Step Up conference Wednesday about state tax incentives, credits and wage subsidies for employers.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. in the auditorium and multipurpose room at 1 University Place. The event runs until 10:30 a.m and features presentations, booth exhibits and opportunities to ask questions.
The Stamford event is one of several regional Step Up conferences planned throughout the state. The Department of Labor will hold another event at the Shelton Community Center on June 30 and one in Bridgeport in September.
“These conferences are designed for local businesspeople who are working and supporting our communities and may want to expand or hire, but could use the help of state resources to make their plans a reality,” state Labor Department Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer said in a press release.
For all events, presentations, which begin at 8 a.m., will inform attendees about Subsidized Training and Employment Program (Step Up) wage incentives, the Small Business Express Program, finding and recruiting qualified employees, guidelines for becoming a state of Connecticut vendor, help when filing taxes, training grants for an employer”™s existing workforce, apprenticeship programs, available tax credits and more.
The Step Up program pays a portion of a new employee”™s salary ”“ up to $12,500 during the first six months of employment ”“ if an employer with 100 employees or fewer meets certain criteria and hires an unemployed job seeker. A Step Up program geared specifically for veterans offers the same hiring incentives but is open to companies of any size.
Employers can register online for any of the employer conferences at StepCT.com. Registration for the Stamford conference ends Tuesday.
