University of Bridgeport students and Bridgeport firefighters are building a Bridgeport playground  Dec. 6-11 to honor Sandy Hook School victims.
Several student groups will team with Bridgeport Firefighters Local 834 to build a playground in memory of student Josephine Grace Gay, who was killed last December at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
The playground is part of the “Where Angels Play” initiative. Volunteers in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York are building 26 playgrounds named for those killed last Dec. 14. Construction of the Josephine Grace Gay Playground begins 8 a.m., Dec. 6, Section 6, Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
The playground will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony 4 p.m., Dec. 11.
UB student volunteers from Lambda Sigma Upsilon fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, members of Alternative Spring Break and WEACT will help unload supplies and build the play space Dec. 6-7.
Sodexo Dining Services from UB and Lorenzo”™s Restaurant will provide drinks and sandwiches for the volunteers.
