Stamford”™s St. Camillus Center is one of six nursing homes to be fined by the Connecticut Department of Health for patient-related safety violations.
A resident with Parkinson”™s disease and dementia who had “multiple falls” between Sept. 1 and Oct. 19, 2017 fell again on Oct. 20 while placed in front of the nurses”™ station; the staff was not watching the patient, according to the citation. The patient was taken to a hospital and diagnosed with a small subarachnoid hemorrhage on the temporal lobe.
The same resident was hospitalized on Jan. 7, 2018 with severe dehydration, with documentation failing to show that adequate fluid intake had been monitored as outlined in the resident”™s care plan.
Another resident with dementia was hospitalized on June 17, 2018, with a broken right hip after falling from bed. Documentation failed to show that appropriate actions had been taken when the resident exhibited behaviors, including screaming and hallucinations, prior to the fall.
St. Camillus was fined $4,260 for the violations. A spokesperson said that the nursing home is now in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Also fined were nursing homes in Hartford, New Haven, Wallingford, and two in Middletown.
