Carolee LLC, the Stamford-based designer, manufacturer, and distributor of jewelry and accessories for women, is laying off 47 workers as it consolidates its distribution and receiving operations in a facility in Clinton, N.C., owned by its parent company, Brooks Brothers Group.
The company said it is providing counseling and assistance programs to the affected personnel. Its 68 employees who comprise its administration, product development, sales and marketing functions will remain in Stamford.
“Like everyone in retailing, especially those who sell primarily through department store channels, we have seen significant changes in consumer buying habits,” the company said in a statement. “While it is never an easy decision, we believe our distribution relocation will help to create some efficiencies and offset some of the market challenges.”
