St. Vincent”™s Medical Center in Bridgeport announced it is joining a group of Connecticut health care systems to form the Value Care Alliance. The group will feature seven hospitals, including facilities in Norwalk and Danbury.
In a statement, the VCA identified itself as “a collaboration of hospitals and physician organizations working together to provide efficient, coordinated, high-quality care for the communities they serve.”
“St. Vincent”™s is proud to be a member of the Value Care Alliance,” said Dr. Stuart Marcus, president and CEO of St. Vincent”™s Health Services, in a statement. “Our collective vision is to enhance the quality and coordination of care available to residents within the communities we serve. Together we will continue our work to provide high quality, compassionate and safe care. By doing this in the most cost-efficient manner possible, we will lead the transformation of the health care delivery system in our region.”
St. Vincent”™s has 473 beds and more than 500 affiliated doctors.
The VCA said it is the largest collaboration of independent health care providers in the state. Its seven member hospitals cover the majority of the state geographically and combined serve approximately 1.3 million people, the alliance said in a statement accompanying the St. Vincent”™s announcement.
In addition to St. Vincent”™s Medical Center, VCA members include Griffin Hospital in Derby; Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London; Middlesex Hospital in Middletown; and the Western Connecticut Health Network, which is composed of Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital and Norwalk Hospital.
The VCA said it expects to add more health care organizations, without specifying a timeline.
VCA member hospitals and physician organizations each maintain local control over governance and community connections, the alliance said. Advantages, according to the VCA, include benefits of scale, shared best practices and pursuit of efficiencies while addressing local market needs.
This story has been corrected from a previous version to reflect that St. Vincent’s is a founding member of the Value Care Alliance.
