Nick Simmons was nominated by local Democrats to try to take State Senate District 36, which contains Greenwich alongside parts of Stamford, Darien, and the majority of New Canaan. He will be campaigning to unseat the incumbent, Republican Ryan Fazio.
The district, which comprises some of the wealthiest zip codes in not only the state but the country, is typically a reliably Republican one.
Simmons is the younger brother of Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons, who was herself State Representative for District 144. While in that role the current mayor met her current husband, Art Linares, who was the state senator for District 33, centered around Chester.
In addition to his sister and brother-in-law’s political experience, Simmons has years of experience in education, and was appointed a Senior Advisor by the Biden Administration to help oversee the reopening of schools after the Covid pandemic.
