The second annual Raveis Ride + Walk is scheduled to take place at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 16. The event, benefiting Damon Runyon Cancer Research (DRCR), will include a 5K walk, a 12-mile or 25-mile bike ride, and a children”™s 100-yard dash. Following the walk, rides and dash, there will be food, music and kids”™ activities.
The Ride + Walk was started last year by Bill Raveis, founder and CEO of William Raveis Real Estate, Mortgage and Insurance, following his wife Candy being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Last year”™s event drew over 500 participants and raised over $500,000, which the William Raveis Charitable Fund used to create two fellowships for emerging scientists at DRCR. Aaron Viny, M.D. of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Yi Yin, Ph.D. of Harvard University received four-year grants to pursue new breakthroughs in cancer research.
Just prior to the start of this year”™s edition, there will be a celebration of the cancer survivors and Damon Runyon scientists who are participating in the event.
The minimum fundraising amount for adults is $250; minors under 17 must be accompanied by an adult and have a $25 fundraising minimum; and the fundraising window closes on Oct. 30. Participants can register before October 10 at the Raveis Ride + Walk website.
