After being named the richest metro in the nation earlier this month by The Atlantic, Bridgeport has found itself near the top of another list: dirtiest cities.
Bridgeport was ranked as the fourth dirtiest city by Forbes Magazine Dec. 10.
Fresno, Calif. won first place on the list, followed by Bakersfield, Calif. and Philadelphia.
The brief reasoning for Bridgeport’s ranking noted the city’s toxic waste from decades of dumping from Raymark Industries and the past 20 years of removing lead, asbestos, arsenic and dioxins.
New Haven ranked seventh for its low air quality at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Interstate 91. New York City, which includes Northern New Jersey and Long Island, ranked 11th for 100 years of oil refinery leaks and spills.
