U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy jumped ahead of Republican Linda McMahon in Quinnipiac University”™s latest poll on Connecticut”™s U.S. Senate race, opening up a 49-43 percent lead among likely voters surveyed.
In Connecticut, President Obama “buries” Mitt Romney in the run for the White House, Quinnipiac stated, leading 55-41 percent.
Quinnipiac surveyed more than 1,400 voters between Oct. 19 and Oct. 22, assigning a 2.6 percent margin of error. While Obama”™s lead is largely intact from a previous Quinnipiac poll in early October, McMahon has surrendered the slight lead she held at that point.
More than six in 10 voters have an unfavorable view of the Senate race, as both candidates have unleashed attacks and negative ads.
“As we hit the final stretch of the campaign, Linda McMahon is beginning to fade, as she did in her 2010 run against Richard Blumenthal,” said Douglas Schwartz, director of the Quinnipiac University poll, in a prepared statement. “One of McMahon”™s key strengths had been that voters liked her more than Murphy.”
“Voters are evenly divided on Murphy but have a net negative opinion of McMahon. After improving her image from two years ago, her favorability rating has fallen back to about where she was in 2010.”
