
HAMDEN – Six in ten voters in Pennsylvania approve of the job Gov. Josh Shapiro is doing, while 28% disapprove, and 11% did not offer an opinion.
This is the highest job approval rating for Shapiro since June 2023, when the Quinnipiac University Poll began asking this question of registered voters in Pennsylvania.
Shapiro’s best approval score until now was in January 2024, when 59% of voters approved of the job he was doing. His 28% disapproval rating is also his highest, up from 27% in October 2023.
In a hypothetical 2026 gubernatorial matchup between Shapiro and Republican candidate Stacy Garrity, Shapiro leads 55% – 39%.
In a hypothetical 2026 gubernatorial matchup between Shapiro and Republican Doug Mastriano, should Mastriano run, Shapiro leads 56% – 39%.
In a completely hypothetical 2028 presidential matchup in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania pitting Shapiro, the Democrat, against Vice President J.D. Vance, Shapiro leads Vance 53% – 43%.
Voters by 46% – 38% approve of the way U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat, is handling his job, with 16% not offering an opinion.
Republicans 62% – 2% approve of the way Fetterman is handling his job, while Democrats 54% – 33% disapprove. Independents are evenly split, with 43% approving and 43% disapproving.
This compares to January 2024 when Republicans 75% – 16% disapproved of the way Fetterman was handling his job, while Democrats 80% – 10% approved. Then, as now, independents were split with 42% approving and 43% disapproving.
Other key findings
• Forty-three percent of voters approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president, while 54% disapprove.
• Thirty-nine percent of voters approve of the way Sen. Dave McCormick is handling his job, while 35% disapprove, and 26% did not offer an opinion.
• When voters were asked who they blame more for the Pennsylvania state budget being three months overdue, 46% say both the Democratic-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate equally, 26% say the Republican-controlled Senate, and 21% say the Democratic-controlled House.
