STAMFORD – The nation’s first indoor padel court facility located within a shopping mall is slated to open at Stamford Town Center later this month, according to Pickleball America. It is an expansion of the existing indoor pickleball courts there.
The facility, which is at the site of the former Saks Fifth Avenue store, will include 28 individual courts across two stories. Pickleball courts have existed at the 140 Atlantic St. location since September 2023, when Pickleball America opened there.
Padel, a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has seen explosive growth across Europe and Latin America and is now gaining significant momentum in the U.S. The Stamford Town Center location provides the entire Stamford community and surrounding areas access to a state-of-the-art glass-enclosed padel court.
“We’re excited to introduce padel to a whole new audience by bringing it directly into the retail environment,” said Bruce Townsend, one of the founders of Padel at Pickleball America. “We have created a unique opportunity for shoppers to discover this international, social and accessible sport.”
In addition to the panoramic court by Sportsfield Specialties, there will be an adjacent lounge and pro shop where players can relax and purchase the latest in padel equipment and apparel.
“This innovative concept transforms traditional mall space into an active, community-focused destination,” said Dan Stolzenbach, general manager of Stamford Town Center. “We’re delighted to offer our visitors not just shopping, but exciting new recreational experiences that bring people together.”
Pickleball America at Stamford Town Center is located on Level 4, in the mall’s wellness wing. Operating hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Court reservations can be made after creating a free guest account through the Pickleball America website, www.pickleballamerica.us.
A ribbon cutting celebration will be held in mid-May at the Padel Court.
Pickleball America is a privately held company and one of the largest indoor pickleball venues in the country. The company was the first to repurpose and operate a 40,000-square-foot pickleball center inside a former anchor box store with 13 indoor pickleball courts and it’s now the first to add a padel court.
