The Connecticut Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, in accordance with the Statewide Grievance Committee, has announced disciplinary action against seven attorneys around the state, including a solo practitioner in Norwalk who could resume practicing in one year.
Divorce lawyer Christopher Neil Overton served 18 months in prison for gun charges and making threats as he attempted to buy drugs, winning release from the Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield in April.
Overton is suspended from practicing law for one year after his discharge. Upon release, he was given a five-year period of conditional discharge, meaning that he could return to prison if he breaks any laws ”“ a condition he said he might appeal.
Overton was sentenced to prison for one count of first-degree threatening, one count of carrying a pistol without a permit and one count of illegal discharge of a firearm, with the last charge being a misdemeanor.
