Strangely enough, we did not find it as scary as some that our Fifth District Congressman could not keep his mind sufficiently focused in 2007 to remember that he had a mortgage, and make the payments.
After all, U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy serves in the Beltway where forgetfulness is an art form ”“ at least when it comes to the lessons of the past.
A JPMorgan Chase & Co. Inc. affiliate reportedly initiated foreclosure proceedings on Murphy”™s Cheshire home in 2007, months after he won election to the U.S. House of Representatives and subsequently served on the House Financial Services Committee.
Murphy, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, had not previously disclosed the foreclosure action, which ended in an out-of-court settlement according to the Hartford Courant. A spokesman told the newspaper Murphy and his wife “inadvertently missed a couple of mortgage payments” while merging their finances.
Plenty of fodder for Linda McMahon, who Murphy trailed in a Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters on the eve of the newspaper”™s revelations.
“We all make mistakes and we all struggle,” McMahon stated on her website. “But while the rest of us pay for our misdeeds, career politicians like Congressman Murphy, their fat cat campaign contributors and a complicit media play by a different set of rules.”
And that”™s just Round One. If Murphy wins, Republicans can take heart thinking how much fun McMahon vs. Malloy might be in two years”™ time.
