NORWALK – In preparation for its grand opening on July 23, the Norwalk Wegmans Food Markets store team has been busy connecting with local businesses and organizations, including a $10,000 donation to Connecticut Foodshare.
The supermarket donation will support Connecticut Foodshare’s mission of ending hunger by distributing nutritious food throughout the area. In addition, Connecticut Foodshare will benefit from the store’s annual customer scan campaigns. Once the store opens, they will be one of the store’s perishable pickup partners, receiving weekly donations of unsaleable perishable food items.
The store team has already established relationships with many local nonprofit organizations and businesses, contributing nearly $50,000 to the community through donations and event sponsorships.
“We learned from our employees about what is important to the community and where we can make our biggest impact,” said Norwalk Service Manager Cody Nunn. “They connected us with some great local nonprofits, and food banks, and the city helped us locate other organizations to partner with to make an impact in the area we’re serving.”
Connecticut Foodshare is appreciative of Wegmans’ efforts.
“Connecticut Foodshare is incredibly thankful to Wegmans for this generous donation as the supermarket opens its new Norwalk location,” said Jason Jakubowski, president and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare. “At a time when so many people in our communities are facing increased need, this support will go a long way in helping us provide nutritious food to our neighbors in Fairfield County and across the state who are food insecure.”
Wegmans says it will do its part to combat food insecurity. In March 2025, the team donated over 200 cases of nonperishable products to the Norwalk Community College Food Pantry to help their students access free food. After the store opens, the pantry will be one of the Norwalk store’s perishable pickup partners, receiving weekly donations of unsaleable perishable food items.
The Norwalk store, which will be the first in Connecticut, plans to hire 500 employees at the location.
The 92,000-square-foot supermarket planned for 675 Connecticut Ave. will become the 111th operated by the Rochester, New York-based company. The property was appraised in 2023 for $30.67 million, according to city public records. It was purchased in 2022 for $22.5 million by Wegmans Food Markets Inc.
