STAR Inc., Lighting the Way, a Norwalk-based nonprofit that provides support and services to people with developmental disabilities in Fairfield County, recently received a $10,000 grant from the Young Women’s League of New Canaan.
The funds will be used to provide occupational, physical and speech therapy to infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities in Fairfield County, Katie Banzhaf, executive director of STAR, said in a press release announcing the grant. The funding will allow the nonprofit to help children attain their age-appropriate developmental goals before entering preschool, she said.
STAR Inc. said it will use the funds for its early intervention program at the Rubino Family Center to offer therapies and to either replace or augment its sensory stimuli teaching equipment and therapeutic toys and supplies.
The nonprofit serves individuals of all ages with intellectual and development disabilities and provides support services to families of people with learning disabilities.
The Young Women’s League works with more than 150 Fairfield County charitable organizations and donates volunteer hours to the community.  It has distributed grants totaling more than $3 million to local 501(c)(3) organizations, according to its website.
