A Fairfield County chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives was named national chapter of the year by SCORE and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
SCORE provides free consulting for entrepreneurs and small companies.
The Norwalk-based chapter advised 3,645 small businesses and individuals last year, an all-time high that represented a 39 percent increase from the previous year. Seminar attendance was up 56 percent.
SCORE also has Connecticut chapters in Bridgeport, Danbury, Hartford, New Haven and Old Saybrook.
Achievements by the Norwalk chapter include:
- Peter Ferrio, owner of Business Technology L.L.C., doubled his revenue each year with business and financial management advice from SCORE counselors Ruth Kelley and Elliot Baritz.
- Ann Gilmartin, owner of Wings Unlimited Inc., a corporate meeting and incentive planning company, received startup advice more than 20 years ago with ongoing mentoring on technology, marketing and financial management from SCORE advisers Bill Hall and Ken Futter.
- Stephanie Mann, owner of designer W. Laimon Interiors L.L.C., worked with Baritz on increasing clients and sales to maximize profits.
- Fred and Shannon Converse, owners of My Tutor and Me L.L.C., which offers private, in-home educational tutoring, were given business plan and legal advice from SCORE”™s Ray Wolfe.
Last year”™s winner, Greater Cincinnati SCORE, was also a finalist this year, along with Nassau County SCORE on Long Island and several other chapters.
