Several YNHCH specialty programs have recently been spotlighted for their excellence by U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.”
YNHCH’s Bridgeport Hospital campus features a 20-bed newborn intensive care unit and a 22-bed pediatric unit that specializes in the care of infants through adolescents and a pediatric sleep center.
“We place as much emphasis on a child’s emotional needs as we do on his or her medical needs,” the hospital states on its website. “We are committed to the philosophy of patient- and family-centered care and believe that the best health care is based on partnerships among patients, families and providers.”
There is also a family lounge and kitchen area called Bunny’s Café, which is named after the late Bunny Jacobs whose husband, Milt, established, that is available for parents of hospitalized children to relax, sip a beverage, read a magazine or even send email. The café includes an attractively decorated kitchen with full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, café tables and a computer workstation with Internet access.
At Bridgeport Hospital, there is a circular playroom full of toys for children and pull-out sofa beds so parents can sleep over with their child, and private bathrooms with showers.
