Waverly Care Center in New Canaan ranks as the third most expensive senior care facility in the United States, according to a new report.
Caregiverlist.com, an informational service to connect seniors with care providers, compiled the ranking based on the real costs of more than 18,000 long-term care providers for seniors after Medicaid payments have been applied.
Waverly Care Center costs roughly $458 a day for a private room, after Medicaid has been applied, placing the center as the third most expensive in the nation after centers in California and Massachusetts. The least expensive center, in South Carolina, costs $128 a day.
“Senior care is crucial to prepare for with the rising costs and the limited aid provided from the government,” said Julie Northcutt, CEO of Caregiverlist.com, in a press release. “In-home senior care is the most affordable option available when considering it also delivers the benefit of one caregiver dedicated to the senior’s care needs.”
According to the report, assisted living costs $2,500 to $5,000 a month, while nursing homes cost $5,400 to $12,000 a month.
