The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will increase off-peak weekday and weekend train frequency on the Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line starting in November. Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy on Wednesday announced trains will run every half-hour during those times.
“With off-peak and weekend trains running almost around the clock, Connecticut riders will see more frequent, reliable and convenient service, which is our end goal when deciding what kinds of investments to make in this commuter line,” Malloy said in a statement.
On Wednesday, the MTA approved plans to extend the commuter line into Manhattan’s Penn Station as part of a $32 billion, four-year capital improvement plan. It also wants to add four Metro-North stations in the Bronx, including in Hunts Point, Parkchester, Morris Park and Co-op City, according to The Wall Street Journal.  The two Manhattan destinations the New Haven Line currently serves are Grand Central Terminal and Harlem-125th Street.
“A modern and efficient transportation network is one of the key components of a competitive business climate, and more frequent service between New Haven and New York, along with other upgrades to the Metro-North system, will add more options for business travelers and improve service along the critical New Haven Line,” said Joe Brennan, executive vice president of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, in a statement.
The New Haven Line, which runs three branches into New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury, made 39 million trips last year, according to the MTA.
