As repairs are made to a failed cable feeder along the New Haven line, Con Edison officials say Metro-North train service is expected to make a full return by Oct. 7.
As of Wednesday, train service was operating at 65 percent capacity, with five additional peak trains running in the morning.
Over the weekend technicians at Con Edison successfully installed a third temporary transformer, which allowed for some electric trains to begin running Monday. Previously, limited diesel-train service was running along the tracks.
A 138,000-volt cable feeder, which supplies electricity to overhead wires, lost power Sept. 25 at about 5:30 a.m., disrupting the commutes of hundreds of thousands of commuters for several days days. The cause of the feeder failure is unknown, however, Con Edison officials say it was likely related to work done to disconnect the feeder for upgrade work.
Once service fully returns, Con Edison plans to conduct a review of why the feeder failed.
Metro-North officials have announced reimbursements will be issued for monthly and weekly pass holders.
