SurgiQuest Inc. reported raising $5 million in new financing, as the company sells devices that assist surgeons in performing robotic surgery.
It was Orange-based SurgiQuest’s first reported financing since securing nearly $12 million in April 2011. Founder Kurt Azarbarzin started the company in 2005, having previously been an executive with U.S. Surgical Corp. which at the time was based in Norwalk.
SurgiQuest sells a medical instrument called a trocar used to create “ports” into abdominal cavities to allow access by other devices and better maneuver those instruments into position.
In September, the company won certification to sell its devices in Japan.
