The federal government is back and open for business.
After a 15-day shutdown, Congress passed legislation Wednesday night to fund the government and avert a default, without dismantling the Affordable Care Act.
In response to the deal, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy issued a statement Thursday morning:
“While I am pleased that an agreement to end the shutdown has been reached, the fact remains that this is no way to run a government. We simply cannot go from one manufactured crisis to the next, and that”™s all this deal does — put off the hard choices until a later date, so we can go through this nonsense again next year.
“The decision in Washington by House Republicans to abdicate their responsibilities as elected officials in order to pursue a fringe ideological agenda has very real implications for states and for the families that live in them. The sad truth is that those most in need are the ones most directly impacted, as we saw in Connecticut when vital Head Start facilities in Bridgeport and across the state unnecessarily faced closure. Republicans in Washington need to get the message ”“ they are elected to govern, not to score political points on the backs of those they”™re supposed to serve. I wish I could say that I am optimistic that a lesson has been learned, but the truth is I”™m not.”
I find Governer Malloy’s comments almost as ridiculous to his governing while in office. He is critisizing the House Republicans for scoring political points. Dan needs to pay attention to what is going on around him. The House Republicans are trying to bring down the debt while maintaining a sensible budget and trying to reduce waste, something most Dems are unaware of how to accomplish. I think Dan should focus his attention on his own state, as he has been out to lunch since he took office.
I think Malloy is precisely the breath of fresh air that CT has needed for the past 20 years.
The combination of Rowland and then Rell has left our state a sadder and poorer place.
They paid no heed to the crumbling infrastructure; let businesses depart with no plans to attract new businesses or secure the positions of those already here.
I find comments of Malloy’s performance to be odd. He has done more to shore up our defenses and strengthen us for the future than his two predecessors.
