Macy’s plans to close approximately 100 stores next year in the face of changing shopping patterns and increasing online competition.
“We decided to close a larger number of stores proactively so we can invest in a winning customer experience in our most productive and highest-potential locations,” said Macy’s President Jeff Gennette, who is scheduled to succeed Terry Lundgren as CEO early next year.
The announcement came on the heels of the release of Macy’s second quarter results, which found sales down by 3.9 percent to about $5.9 billion.
The retailer, headquartered in Cincinnati, did not specify which of its 769 outlets would be closing. Fairfield County Macy”™s are located in Danbury, Trumbull and Stamford.
