Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC) is hosting its first women-only “She Nailed It” competition, a fast-paced team event that will challenge women”™s nailing skills and serve as the backdrop for fundraising and networking efforts to support Habitat for Humanity”™s home-building efforts in Fairfield County.
The event aims to raise $50,000 for Women Build, a Habitat for Humanity program designed to recruit, educate, and empower women to break stereotypes, build, and advocate for affordable housing in Fairfield County.
The competition, co-sponsored by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation, GE Asset Management and Garden Catering, will be held Wednesday, June 15 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, 90 Harding Road, Old Greenwich.
Funds from the competition will go towards the goal of providing a new affordable home for a woman-headed household in need.
To participate, teams of four women are asked to register in advance for the competition, which requires no previous construction experience or special skill. Donations in advance are not required, but teams are encouraged to solicit friends, family, colleagues and others to sponsor teams to help them reach goals of raising $1,000 per team.
Food and drink will be served and faux-jeweled hammers will be given as prizes to the winners. The public is welcome to cheer the teams on as spectators and may purchase tickets in advance for $25 or $35 at the door.
For information and detailed guidance on registering a team, securing sponsorships and purchasing tickets, visit the event’s web page.
Habitat CFC builds 12-14 homes each year and has provided more than 1,000 family members in the area with a safe, affordable place to live. The Women Build team recently completed its 11th home and is working on a new home this summer.
“We”™re going to have some fun and help raise funds for the construction of our 12th Women Build home for Rosanna Dotel and her children,” said Eileen Bakos, manager of volunteer services at Habitat CFC.
