L.L. Bean has bypassed Fairfield County in favor of opening a factory-discount outlet this fall in Orange, just over the New Haven County border.
The Maine retailer had considered Fairfield and Danbury for a local store, CEO Chris McCormick said in a May interview. McCormick grew up in Fairfield County and attended Fairfield University.
The company is leasing 13,000 square feet at the Orange Meadows Shopping Center from Greenwich-based Urstadt Biddle Properties Inc., in space previously occupied by Seaman”™s Furniture.
In addition to in-season items from L.L. Bean”™s outdoor catalog, the store will sell overstocked, discontinued and irregular products.
L.L. Bean is also readying an outlet in South Windsor for a mid-August opening.
