The Trumbull-based Kennedy Center recently announced the opening of its newest division, a home health care initiative called KennCARE Homecare Services.
KennCARE will serve the Greater Bridgeport area, which encompasses Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, Shelton, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield.
“Qualified home care is an ever-growing need in our community,” said Renée East, vice president of residential services at The Kennedy Center, in a statement. “We decided to start this new business because of our agency”™s extensive experience in home care services. For over 60 years, we have been providing supported living and family support programs for people with disabilities.”
The Kennedy Center said in a statement that “the new service will target elderly and older adults, terminally and chronically ill individuals, and individuals with and without disabilities who have recently been discharged from a hospital or rehabilitation facility.”
KennCARE Homecare Services will offer assistance with housekeeping and laundry, meal preparation, medical appointments and shopping, family caregiver relief, medication reminders and memory care services, transportation, personal care and hygiene services, and companion services. Nursing assessments and respite services will be provided as needed.
Payment methods vary and will include private pay, long-term care insurance and some state funding.
“The Kennedy Center saw a need for these services in the community because seniors prefer to age in place in their home,” said Martin D. Schwartz, president and CEO of The Kennedy Center.
Program details include driving. Each home care aide will drive his or her own vehicle and will be required to take a driver education class and pass a test administered by the Kennedy Center.
