In September, Fairfield County had 6,700 more jobs than the previous year, with the county gaining 1,500 positions between August and September.
The job estimates are published by the Connecticut Department of Labor and are not adjusted for the seasonal impact of the summer work-force needs of the hospitality industry and others.
In September, Connecticut upped its record job total statewide to 1,702,600 positions, with the biggest year-over-year gain coming in the field of educational services, which increased its headcount 4.4 percent thanks to upped hiring by colleges and universities.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, Connecticut”™s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in September, up from 4.4 percent a year earlier. The national unemployment rate of 4.7 percent also crept up one basis point.
The Danbury area continues to have the lowest unemployment rate of any business center in Connecticut at 3.4 percent, up from 3.2 percent a year ago.
Coastal Fairfield County”™s unemployment rate was 3.9 percent in September, up from 3.8 percent in 2006.
