IBM Corp. and General Electric Co. were ranked the 15th and 16th most-admired companies in the world, leading a large number of inclusions from Westchester County and Fairfield County in an annual survey published by Fortune Magazine.
Apple Inc., Google Inc. and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. topped the Fortune list of the nearly 350 most admired companies in the world, with the latter having a large local work force via its General Reinsurance Corp. subsidiary in Stamford, Conn., which has 800 employees.
PepsiCo Inc. was the only other local company to crack the top 25, with its Pepsi Bottling Group affiliate in Somers ranked lower on the list.
Three more Westchester companies made the list of the some 350 most-admired companies: MasterCard Inc., Bunge Ltd., and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., the latter of which plans to relocate to Stamford in 2012.
Fairfield County similarly had three more ranked companies, all based in Norwalk: Xerox Corp., IMS Health Inc. and Emcor Group Inc.
Hartford-based United Technologies Corp., which is the largest employer in Fairfield County via its Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. subsidiary in Stratford, also was included.
Procter & Gamble Co., which employs more than 400 people in Fairfield County at
its Duracell headquarters in Bethel, ranked sixth overall.
