According to a new survey by Right Management of Norwalk, the development of leaders and high-potential employees and identifying future leaders are the top talent management and work force planning challenges facing organizations today.
“The survey results demonstrate that organizations are becoming more concerned about the critical roles that people play in their businesses, in addition to operating results,” said Bill Brimmer, market vice president for Right Management in Norwalk and Glastonbury.
The survey included 95 human resource professionals from 76 organizations in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
According to the survey, the top talent management challenges are identifying high-potential talent, 71percent; filling critical leadership skill gaps, 70 percent; and Career development, 69 percent.
Paralleling this, the top work force planning challenges are developing leaders, developing high-potential leaders and selecting the best candidates for open positions.
“It is essential for an organization to effectively manage talent in order to achieve sustained business growth,” said Brimmer. “Shifting demographics, rapidly evolving technologies, changes to organizational structure and diverse employee needs can cause disconnect among an organization”™s strategy, execution, and business alignment.”
Right Management asserts that the increasing competition for talented employees has elevated the need to attract and retain the right people.
“Leaders need to effectively communicate the vision and mission of the business to all employees, show how they can contribute to it, and live it in their daily lives,” said Brimmer. “Alignment from top to bottom and across the organization ensures agility and the ability to execute optimally.”
