Housatonic Community College formally opens its new Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center in Bridgeport on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a 12:30 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.
Speakers slated to attend include Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut Board of Regents President Robert Kennedy, and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch.
“This ribbon-cutting is indeed a landmark moment for the college and the business community,” said Anita Gliniecki, president of Housatonic Community College, in a prepared statement. “The Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center is coming online just as manufacturing activity in the region is picking up. The center will prepare students for well-paying jobs in a growing field while providing area manufacturers with the skilled workers they need to sustain their growth.”
The center was funded in part through a $17.8 million grant for three such centers in the state based on a model pioneered at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, and features an advanced manufacturing laboratory and engineering design studio.
One block of fall classes is already underway, while a second begins Oct. 1.
Naugatuck Community College in Waterbury and Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson are also debuting advanced manufacturing courses this fall.
