A pair of worthy golf outings ”“ one in its third decade ”“ will tee up in the coming weeks.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Greater New York Chapter, Westchester, will host its fourth annual Spring Fling Gala Saturday, May 4, at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Conn.
And some 300 guests are expected to attend The Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson”™s Foundation”™s 21st Annual Dystonia and Parkinson”™s Golf Invitational, to be held Monday, June 17, at Century Golf Club in Purchase. Willie Geist, co-host of NBC”™s “Today” and MSNBC”™s “Morning Joe” is the master of ceremonies.
The cystic fibrosis event will honor Gerald J. Klein Jr., president and CEO of Mahopac National Bank, and Nicholas A. Stephens, partner, Edgewood Management L.L.C. and greater New York cystic fibrosis chapter board member. The two will receive the 2013 Breath of Life Award for their support and commitment to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its mission. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund research and the development of new therapies.
Raising more than $1 million annually to fund medical research in the fields of dystonia and Parkinson”™s disease, 21st Annual Dystonia and Parkinson”™s Golf Invitational is considered the foundation”™s premier fundraiser. Last year”™s event raised $1.9 million.
This year”™s dystonia-Parkinson”™s event guest of honor is Bill Geist, father of Willie Geist, a correspondent with CBS since 1987 and currently host of the network”™s “Sunday Morning.” Last July, Geist broke the news to his viewers about being affected with Parkinson”™s disease, a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. The dinner gala kicks off with cocktails at 7 p.m. and features a silent auction emceed by Jamie Niven, chairman of Sotheby”™s America.
