GE listed with 5th largest corporate pension
General Electric Co. operates the fifth largest corporate pension in the United States in 2009, according to a new study, and GE among the 40 largest pensions in the world whether public or private.
GE has more than 5,000 employees in Fairfield County, and its pension totaled $58.3 billion according to the publication Pensions & Investments and Towers Watson & Co., a New York City-based consultancy with a large office in Stamford.
Of U.S. corporations, only General Motors Corp., AT&T Inc., Boeing Co. and IBM Corp. had larger pensions as ranked by total assets under management.
Hartford-based United Technologies Corp. was the only other Connecticut-based company to make the pension list, with its $27.9 billion in assets ranked 96th worldwide.
Online want ads show reduced demand
Online help-wanted ads in Connecticut dropped in August from both their levels in August and a year ago, a signal of reduced demand for new workers by area companies.
There were 3,200 fewer new help-wanted ads posted online between August and September, according to The Conference Board, even as online ads rose nationally by a total of nearly 60,000 ads. Massachusetts led all Northeast states with a gain of 4,300 ads, while New York and New Jersey registered small gains.
