FAIRFIELD – Transformation of the former Kingsway Motors used car dealership at 705 Kings Highway E. into an auto repair shop began last month as the building was demolished.
705 Kings LLC of Milford hired Connecticut Demolition LLC of Bridgeport to tear down the burned-out building on Dec. 11. It applied for the demolition permit on Dec. 10.
The demolition of the 14,000-square-foot building occurred more than two years after a fire gutted Kingsway Motors in November 2023. The property, which was built in 1930, was shuttered following the fire and sold a year later.
The new owner, 705 Kings Highway LLC, purchased the property from longtime owner Pepper Partners LLC and Shelton-based Consumers Petroleum for $150,000. The purchase price was reduced to $150,000 because the property is in the state’s Transfer Act, where the buyer is the certifying party.
The property was last assessed by the Town of Fairfield for $342,930 in 2025, including $323,120 in land value.
Many years ago, there was an autobody shop that had a spray booth that placed the property in the Transfer Act category, according to Bruce Wettenstein, principal of Vidal/Wettenstein. His firm brokered the sale for the owner. He said the property was one of four that had been in a family portfolio for many years.
