Tom Foley said he is not yet conceding the race for Connecticut governor, after Bridgeport Mayor Finch said Democrat Dan Malloy had received sufficient votes on an unofficial basis to win the election.
In a press conference the morning of Nov. 5 in Hartford Tom Foley did not concede the race and said election officials need more time to verify the accuracy of the totals.
“All ballots are supposed to be counted the night of the election,” Foley said. “To be counting ballots three days later is unusual.”
The Republican Party had previously vowed to sue to protest a judge”™s decision to keep polls open late in Bridgeport after voting officials there failed to print a sufficient number of ballots, causing some to be turned away during normal poll hours. In his press conference, Foley did not rule out a lawsuit to force a recount.
With the disputed Bridgeport votes, Malloy”™s margin of victory statewide exceeds 5,300 votes, according to the Hartford Courant. Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz did not immediately certify the statewide results as official after Finch”™s announcement.
