Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele formally announced his candidacy for Connecticut governor, bidding to replace fellow Republican and current Gov. M. Jodi Rell.
Tom Foley, a former ambassador to Ireland, was expected today to announce he would drop his bid for the Republican nomination to unseat U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, and instead run for governor, according to the Hartford Courant.
Fedele, a Stamford resident, had informally indicated he would run after Rell announced in November she would not seek re-election.
Fedele announced his candidacy at a Cromwell meeting of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. He is founder of The Pinnacle Group, a Stamford-based computer services company with 100 employees at last report.
