Mediassociates honored for impact on Connecticut economy
Newtown-based Mediassociates, a media planning and buying agency, was honored with a Celebrate CT award from the Connecticut Economic Development Association (CEDAS) for the company”™s contributions to the state”™s economic growth. CEDAS is a nonprofit committed to economic advancement in Connecticut. The company was recognized at the CEDAS annual ceremony at the Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford.
Volunteer Center hosts Volunteer Day
Stamford Volunteer Day, which recognizes community contributions, was held this month at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library, 115 Vine Road, Stamford. Sandy Weinberg of O”™Connor Davies LLP, a member of the United Way”™s Volunteer Council, served as chairwoman of the program. The winners included Emma Patch, Cora Delibertis, Betsy Varian, Debbie and Brian Dietz, Audra and Robert Hession, Kim Fine and Ray Tellini, Jim Stuart, Barri Kaye, James Otis, Eden Huang and Joseph Nunn.
Sacred Heart receives online learning award
Fairfield-based Sacred Heart University (SHU) was represented at the Online Learning Consortium International Conference 2014, held in Orlando. SHUSquare, the SHU-built online learning program that promotes connectivity among faculty and students, won a national education award in “effective practice” from the Online Learning Consortium.

Dollars for Scholars scholarship opportunities
Stamford Dollars for Scholars announced the online availability of its 2015 scholarship applications. The nonprofit provides scholarships for students who reside in or attend high school in Stamford and who are pursuing full-time, two- or four-year degrees or accredited vocational training. Phelps Memorial Hospital promotes Urban
Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.-based Phelps Memorial Hospital Center promoted Stamford resident Eve Urban to director of volunteer services. Urban”™s responsibilities include overseeing 200 volunteers, the hospital”™s physician referral service, the Phelps Gift Shop, the Cherry Door Thrift Shop in Tarrytown, N.Y. and the James House Mansion, a Victorian gothic building on the Phelps campus.
”˜Baroque Brilliance”™ at the Bruce
Greenwich”™s Bruce Museum is featuring “Baroque Brilliance,” a series of two inaugural student symposia, Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive, Greenwich. Egan named senior partner of law firm
Berchem, Moses & Devlin PC, a law firm with offices in Milford, Norwalk and Westport, appointed Lisa Grasso Egan as a senior partner. Egan is a member of the firm”™s labor and employment law department, representing private and public sector employees. She currently serves as chief negotiator and labor counsel for the New Haven, Bridgeport, Ansonia and Wallingford Housing Authorities, and as chief negotiator for several other municipalities, including the cities of Ansonia and Westport.
Fairfield Museum features WWII exhibit
Fairfield Museum and History Center presents “Mobilizing the Home Front: Posters from World War II,” an exhibit featuring U.S. government-issued posters during wartime, Jan. 16 to May 10, 370 Beach Road, Fairfield. The exhibit also includes artifacts, such as war-ration books issued to American families.
Webster bankers assigned leadership roles
Two bankers from Waterbury-based Webster Bank were named to leadership positions with nonprofits of different stripes.
Robert Guenther, senior vice president, corporate and global communications, was elected to a two-year term as chairman of the Connecticut Chapter of the New York City-based Appalachian Mountain Club, the nation”™s oldest outdoor recreation, education and conservation nonprofit.
Steven C. Taylor, vice president and banking center manager in Bloomfield, joined the statewide Community Health Resources board of directors, a nonprofit behavioral health agency.
