Fairfield Museum appoints president
The Fairfield Museum and History Center appointed Sharon Lauer as its new president, John Herzog as its new vice president and five new members to the board of directors, including, Sandy Altieri, Lisa Callahan, Jill Littig, Bill Mallin and Finley Shaw. Lauer currently serves as the head of the Unquowa School, an independent school in Fairfield, and Herzog is the former CEO of Herzog Heine Geduld Inc., a trading firm, and R.M. Symthe & Co., a numismatic action firm.
Ability Beyond appoints assistant medical director
Ability Beyond, a nonprofit that provides services and programs to individuals with disabilities with offices in Bethel and Mount Kisco N.Y., appointed Robert Bonwetsch to associate medical director. Bonwetsch”™s responsibilities include providing medical direction and guidance and assuring sound medical policies, procedures and practices. He holds a medical degree from the University of Hamburg and completed his residency at MCP-Hahnemann University, now Drexel University.
Silver Hill announces board members
New Canaan”™s Silver Hill Hospital appointed three new board members and reappointed three existing board members to its board of directors, in addition to a new chairman. Peter Orthwein of Greenwich was appointed as chairman of the board of directors, first joining the board in 2005 as chairman of the planning and finance committee. The new appointments include Cheryl Wiesenfeld of Fairfield; David Hunt of New Canaan; and Robert G. Kiely of Madison. Silver Hill also elected the following board members to new positions: Paul Lambdin as vice chairman, Sperry DeCew as secretary and Richard Gannon as treasurer.
First Niagara names new regional president
Buffalo, N.Y.-based First Niagara Financial Group named Jeff Hubbard of Guilford to serve as regional president, New England, leading the company”™s New Haven-based team of bankers across Connecticut and Massachusetts. Hubbard”™s responsibilities include managing and directing the region”™s market-based commercial and industrial lending activities.
Prior to joining First Niagra, Hubbard served six years as regional vice president, commercial banking for TD Bank.
Carolee to support AmeriCares Nepal relief
Stamford-based Carolee, a fashion jewelry company, is donating 60 percent of the retail price of a specifically designed jewelry collection to benefit Stamford-based AmeriCares”™ effort to help victims of the earthquake in Nepal and its continuing aftershocks. The AmeriCares jewelry collection, which includes a pendant necklace, earrings and bracelets, features a global design to signify the charity”™s worldwide reach.
Lockwood-Mathews lecture features restored Newport gem
Norwalk”™s Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is featuring a discussion led by Ronald Lee Fleming titled “Bellevue, Newport: the Restoration of the 1910 Ogden Codman Jr. House and Gardens,” Wed., July 15, 11 a.m., 295 West Ave., Norwalk. Bellevue, purchased by Fleming in 1999, features garden designs of Archille Dunchêne, who also worked on the restoration of Versailles. Wilton Library honored by Connecticut Library Association

Peter Verrilli, principal of Be3 Marketing Group, and Robin Axness, director of development for Wilton Library, joined recently in celebrating the library”™s 2013-2014 annual report, which received an honorable mention during the Connecticut Library Association”™s 2014 Publicity Awards program. The report is titled “Path to Innovation.”
Horizons at SHU receives $20,000
The Horizons program at Fairfield”™s Sacred Heart University, a program that services children from Bridgeport schools by providing academic training, enrichment and tools, received $20,000 from Fairfield County Community Foundation. This summer, Horizons is adding a class of 16 children to bring total enrollment to 81 students ranging from grades K-4.
First County Bank Foundation grants $3,000 to SPEF
The Stamford Public Education Foundation received a grant of $3,000 from First County Bank Foundation to support its Stamford Mentoring Program. The program provides students who need additional academic and/or social support with the resources and guidance required to be successful during middle school, high school and in all college and career endeavors.
First County Bank sponsoring Oyster Festival
Stamford”™s First County Bank is again sponsoring the annual Norwalk Seaport Association”™s Oyster Festival, Sept. 11-13 at Veteran”™s Park, adjacent Norwalk. The bank has been an ongoing supporter of the festival since 2007. The Oyster Festival offers three days of activities, with the entertainment headliners including John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Dennis Young: The Music of STYX and Smash Mouth.
CBA installs new officers
The Connecticut Bar Association installed its officers for the 2015-2016 bar year at the CBA annual luncheon meeting during the Connecticut Legal Conference on June 15 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. They include William H. Clendenen Jr. of Clendenen & Shea LLC as president; Monte E. Frank of Cohen and Wolf PC as president-elect; Karen DeMeola, assistant dean of student life at UConn Law School as vice president; Christine Jean-Louis, assistant attorney general with the attorney general”™s office transportation department as secretary; Sylvia K. Family Centers honors employees for customer service excellence
Family Centers, a nonprofit offering education and human services to residents of Fairfield County with locations in Greenwich, Stamford, Darien and New Canaan, recognized five employees for customer service at its Town Hall Meeting, June 11. The following employees were recognized as Family Centers”™ 2015 Customer Service Ambassadors “for consistently embodying” the organization”™s core values: Lisa Clifford, senior office manager; Darian Jones, self sufficiency program coordinator, Greenwich; Regine Midy, teacher, Joan Melber Warburg Early Childhood Center; Katey Smith, young parents program and trauma response manager; and Lauren Tierney, program coordinator, Stamford CARES.
