The town of Fairfield has received $275,000 in Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) funds to increase handicapped accessibility at four coastal recreational centers, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Jan. 7.
The funds are part of $2.9 million in state economic aid dollars awarded to eight towns currently in the midst of capital improvement projects.
In Fairfield, the funds will go toward accessibility improvements at the South Benson Marina, Southport Beach, Ye Old Yacht Yard and Sasco Beach. Other municipalities receiving funds include Andover, Berlin, East Haddam, East Hampton, Lyme, Somers and Suffield.
State Senator John McKinney, who represents Fairfield, said in a statement released by Malloy’s office that the grant will contribute to restoration efforts underway since Hurricane Sandy struck.
