Dollar General Corp. plans to open its first stores in Connecticut, as part of a national expansion expected to result in 625 new locations and 6,000 jobs.
Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General did not immediately state what locations it is considering. The company also plans to remodel or relocate 550 existing stores, and last fall embarked on a program to purchase some of the properties where it has leases. As of the close of the company”™s third fiscal quarter Oct. 29, Dollar General had nearly 9,275 stores in 35 states.
For the first three fiscal quarters of 2010, Dollar General earned $405 million on $9.5 billion in revenue, up 11 percent from the period in 2009, while same-store sales were up 4 percent.
Last month, TJX Corp. announced plans to shut down four A.J. Wright stores in Connecticut, including one in Bridgeport.
