Middlebury-based iSend L.L.C. won the top spot on the 2012 Marcum Tech Top 40 awards, recognizing fast-growth technology companies in Connecticut.
The Connecticut Technology Council sponsors the contest in conjunction with accounting and consultancy firm Marcum L.L.P., hosting an awards show in Wallingford on Sept. 27.
Over the past four years, iSend achieved nearly 59,000 percent growth providing a platform for people who support family members in various countries with prepaid mobile top-up, international bill payment, and gift card procurement services in retail outlets in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Two Fairfield County companies led their respective categories: FuelCell Energy in Danbury for energy and environmental companies, and Datto Inc. for information technology, with the Norwalk backup systems provider the top Connecticut company on the Inc. 500 list recently published by Inc.
Other category winners included:
- RSL Fiber Systems L.L.C. of East Hartford, for advanced manufacturing;
- Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Cheshire, for life sciences; and
- eVariant Inc. of Simsbury, for software.
Companies are required to have at least $50,000 in revenue in the first year and $3 million in revenue in the fourth year to be considered for the Marcum Tech Top 40.
