Tech gurus, artists and engineers are expected to descend on downtown Danbury June 7 and 8 for the Danbury Mini Maker Faire and Mad Hackers Social Media Conference.
The events, which run from Friday evening to Saturday evening, aim to showcase “makers” of all sorts, from “tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers,” in the words of organizers.
The Mini Maker Faire is based on an event first held in San Mateo, Calif., seven years ago that has since developed an international following, with similar Maker Faires held annually in New York City, Detroit, Kansas City, the U.K. and Tokyo. Last year’s San Mateo Maker Faire showcased 800 entrepreneurs and creators and drew more than 110,000 attendees.
The movement has also spawned a number of independently organized Mini Maker Faires around the world.
The accompanying Mad Hacker’s conference will feature a number of workshops focused on social media applications, with topics ranging from social media analytics to launching a successful campaign to marketing that combines “old” and “new” media strategies.
