A one-night, Tuscany-themed charity event at The Waterview in Monroe brought in $130,000 for Regional Hospice and Home Care in Danbury.
This was the third annual “An Evening in Tuscany” event. Italian tenors dressed as waiters sang arias from popular operas.
Guests, in turn, praised Regional Hospice President and CEO Cynthia E. Roy for what was termed in a statement “her vision and resolve to make this uniquely family centered, all-private-patient-suite facility an option for families.” They included U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra and Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi. Three hundred attended.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton made a personal donation and served as master of ceremonies. He unilaterally and humorously slashed taxes to prompt guests to buy raffle tickets for high-end prizes and donate to match a challenge grant from the Smart Family Foundation. Citing the $130,000 figure, the center said, “It worked!”
The money will support Regional Hospice”™s home care efforts and at its new Center for Comfort Care and Healing and free bereavement support programs at its Healing Hearts Center for Grief and Loss.
