Hartford-based Connecticut Children”™s Medical Center, with offices in Fairfield County, is among the first hospitals in Connecticut to perform robotic surgery on a child and will soon be the first children”™s hospital in the Northeast to have the most advanced robotic surgical system available for pediatric patients.
The da Vinci Robot Xi Surgical System was made possible by a $1.5 million grant from Diebold Foundation Inc. in Roxbury. The technology allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures with pinpoint accuracy, resulting in less pain, smaller scars and faster recovery time for patients.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of the story stated that CCMC was the first hospital in the state to offer robotic surgery for children. Yale New Haven Hospital also has performed robotic surgery on children.
