Mickey Herbert is retiring March 1 as CEO of ConnectiCare, with parent insurance carrier EmblemHealth promoting Michael Wise from executive vice president to president as Herbert”™s replacement.
Farmington-based ConnectiCare operates one of several HMOs licensed to do business in Connecticut.
Herbert, a resident of Fairfield, has led ConnectiCare since 2005, at the time also owning the Bridgeport Bluefish minor league baseball affiliate of the Atlantic League, which he later sold. Herbert has served on numerous boards of not-for-profit organizations in Bridgeport and surrounding towns.
Herbert previously was founder and CEO of Physicians Health Services Inc., which was sold to Health Net in 1998 for $271 million.
In December, Health Net”™s Shelton-based operation was acquired by UnitedHealth Group Inc., after reports surfaced in 2008 that ConnectiCare and EmblemHealth had explored a purchase of Health Net”™s area business.
