The Connecticut Supreme Court has agreed to pick up the case on whether Paul Vallas should keep his position as Bridgeport schools superintendent.
Last month a lower court judge found Vallas was unqualified to serve in the position as he did not complete a state-mandated school leadership program.
The Supreme Court could rule on the case as soon as August.
“I’m confident an impartial, higher court will give Bridgeport kids some of the justice they have long deserved,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch in a July 10 statement. Finch and lawyers for the city have asked the Supreme Court for an expedited review of the case.
“We have filled huge education budget deficits, avoided layoffs, increased funding, built new schools, gave every high school student a laptop computer, and all schoolchildren new textbooks for the very first time, all because of Paul Vallas, the five board of education members who support him and my administration,” Finch said. “I want to keep Paul Vallas here fighting for our kids.”
