Committee kills toll bills, but calls for a new study

Connecticut’s legislative Transportation Committee killed multiple bills to establish road tolls this session but advanced a bill this week to commission a statewide tolling system study.

The study would assess the appropriateness of electronic tolls, looking into highway congestion, ways to ensure that the new revenue would be used for transportation projects only and that the state’s car fuel tax would be reduced.

The study would be finished no later than Feb. 1, 2014.
